NYC Horror Stories

Share

These are stories of some of the acts of violence I’ve seen in NY.

George Weber, a longtime WABC newscaster was found stabbed to death at home in Brooklyn. I work in that area and had placed flyers on his door many times (of course not knowing who lived there and what would happen). That's how I ended up in the middle of a murder scene.

Riding through Brooklyn I witnessed someone get shot in the head in Broad daylight. Luckily it seemed like he received a graze wound and was still conscious and talking.

School fights are a very common thing.

I’ve seen in my life. At the end of the day we live in a crazy world… There are also many positive things that happen here… But it just feels like no matter what you could end up in the crossfire. People tell me Japanese culture is completley different, people trust one another. In New York and most other places even your best friends are snakes and would shoot you if you had enough money, or rip you off for everything you’ve worked your life to build. I’m sure Japan has many of the same problems we do, but I highly doubt I’ll get shot in Osaka, or be stepping over used needles and empty crack vials on the way home, or getting thrown in jail for no reason. No matter what kind of horrible shit happens in my city I’ll always love New York, but Japan may be a place I can have a future that won’t be cut short or stolen from me.

The Bronx (My Streets)

Share

Well I’m out taking pictures again. There was a shootout a couple blocks away when I was taking these most recent ones. The Bronx is still grimy, probably always will be. Living here has changed my life, in some ways for the better. As much as this place stresses me out… There are some things I always miss when I leave. This place carries such an intense presence, you can’t describe it but you feel it. I try and capture that presence in the pictures I take.

The Crew

The Bronx hasn’t been all bad. This is the first place I’ve lived were I felt like I was part of a community. The crew goes' by the name “Freshkidz”. Straight out of Jamaica they’ve been in dance battles worldwide, including Osaka and Tokyo and like me are nice on the mic. When we throw parties the whole block shows up. Here are some pix:
